Chandigarh, July 5

The CBI court here has directed the probe agency to file a fresh status report in two weeks regarding further investigation in the Sippy Sidhu murder case. The direction by Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI, Sukhdev Singh came after a request was made by the CBI for allowing more time for filing of status report during a hearing of the case today.

CBI Inspector Balwinder Singh told the court one of the accused, Kalyani Singh, had been arrested in the case. He requested for two weeks to file the complete status report.

After hearing the plea, the Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI, Chandigarh, adjourned the case for July 19. Investigating Officer/DSP were asked to be present in court for filing of the status report.

Meanwhile, the court has extended the judicial custody of Kalyani by 14 days. Kalyani was produced in court through video-conferencing from Burail Jail. The CBI had Kalyani arrested on June 15 after she was called to join probe.

Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, alias Sippy Sidhu, an advocate, was shot in a Sector 27 park on the night of September 20, 2015. The police had registered a case against unidentified persons. The case was transferred to the CBI in 2016. The CBI arrested the accused after filing an untraced report in December 2020, which was not accepted by court.

The status report was sought by the court on a protest petition filed by Deepinder Kaur Sidhu, mother of Sippy Sidhu, challenging the untraced report filed by the CBI in the case earlier.
