Chandigarh, June 19
The CBI custody of Kalyani Singh, accused in the national-level shooter and advocate Sukhmanpreet Singh Sidhu, aka Sippy Sidhu, murder case, was today extended by two days on the grounds cited earlier, as the CBI during her four-day remand failed to recover the weapon and identify the other accused. The accused was produced before the court of Randeep Kumar, Judicial Magistrate First Class.
Public Prosecutor Narender Singh had sought seven days’ remand of the accused to recover the .12 bore shotgun used in the crime, empty cartridges and identify the unknown assailant. Also, one of the main contentions of the CBI was that during the remand, Kalyani was non-cooperative, evasive and had been denying crucial facts. She needs to be interrogated in the presence of a forensic psychologist to get meaningful responses of relevant facts.
The CBI told the court that an eyewitness had seen Kalyani and an unknown assailant, who had his face covered, killing Sippy. Both accused thereafter escaped from the spot in two different cars. The CBI claimed that one of the cars used by the accused had been traced and seized.
The CBI stated that Kalyani herself was a law graduate; she was required to be confronted with the facts as well as the places that figured during the commission of crime. She was required to be taken to the office of deceased, Panjab University and Sector 19 to reconstruct the chain of events. Earlier, on the day of Kalyani’s arrest, the CBI had sought her 10-day remand on the same grounds of recovering the weapon, and to investigate the role of other accused. Sippy was shot dead at a park in Sector 27 on September 20, 2015.
Accused taken to crime spot
CBI officials on Saturday evening took Kalyani to the Sector 27 park where Sippy was shot dead. Sources said the CBI wanted to reconstruct the crime scene. However, she was non-responsive.
Forensic psychologist to help
The accused will be grilled in presence of a forensic psychologist. Forensic psychology involves application of psychological knowledge & methods to help answer legal questions arising in civil or criminal proceedings.
Car traced: CBI
The CBI claimed that one of the cars used by the accused to escape from the crime spot had been traced and seized.
