Six arrested for thefts in Dera Bassi, Lalru

The police claimed to have arrested six persons involved in five theft cases in Mohali district and three in other districts.

Two jeeps, seven split air conditioners (AC) units, three gold necklaces, four gold rings, a pair of gold earrings and 545-gm silver jewellery have been recovered from them.

Sharing details, Dera Bassi DSP Bikramjit Singh Brar said on June 11, thefts had taken place in Gulmohar City and Hardev Nagar in Lalru.

“In this connection, a case was registered on June 14. Another case was registered on June10 in connection with a theft at a clothing shop in Lalru Mandi. The Dera Bassi police had registered the third FIR on August 10 following a complaint that split ACs were stolen from Laxmi Electronics, Mubarikpur, on the intervening night of August 9 and 10,” the DSP said.

Teams led by SHOs of the Dera Bassi and Lalru police stations used scientific methods and technical resources to investigate the crime scenes and also gathered local intelligence with regard to the accused.

The police said three of the accused were arrested on August 4. They were identified as Sumit Kumar, Nikhil Kumar, alias Nikhil Loharia, of Ambala City and Karan Bhola, a resident of Manmohan Nagar, Ambala.

The trio had left their home four months ago and were frequently changing their phones and addresses. During their remand, the police recovered three gold necklaces, four gold rings, a pair of gold earrings, 545g of silver jewellery, an iron rod, screwdrivers and a KTM motorcycle without a number plate used in the crime.

During interrogation, the trio revealed that they had also committed a theft at a house in Morinda city on July 7 and decamped with a large amount of cash and jewellery.

On August 10, the police arrested Mandeep Singh, alias Deepa, of Ambala, from Jhoj Road, Sangodha, near Ambala. “A stolen car, pieces of Raymond fabric, 72 ladies’ suits, two iron rods and the original number plates of the car were recovered from him. The car was stolen from Simlapuri, Ludhiana. The accused had replaced the original plate with fake plates,” the police added.

Meanwhile, the Lehli chowki incharge received a tip-off on August 10 about involvement of Surjit Singh, alias Kala, a resident of Ambala, and Jaswinder Singh, alias Pinchu, of Simlapuri, Ludhiana, in a theft. “Acting swiftly, they were arrested by setting up a special naka. The duo were driving a pickup bearing a fake registration number plate and were carrying seven split ACs stolen from Laxmi Electronics and an iron crowbar used in the crime,” said the police.
