Six-month-old girl found abandoned

A six-month-old baby girl was found abandoned outside Snehalaya, a shelter home for destitute and abandoned children, at Maloya.

The police said a security guard at Snehalaya saw the baby lying in a cradle on December 10. The police were informed and the baby taken for a medical examination at a government hospital. The girl was later shifted to Snehalaya. The police said a case under Section 317 (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years by parent or a person having care of it) of the IPC had been registered at the Maloya police station. The police said the footage of CCTV cameras installed near the spot would be scrutinised to identify the person who abandoned the baby there. — TNS
