Dear Aisha Chaudhary,
I watched The Sky is Pink recently and believe me, it is overwhelming to accept that the movie is based on a true story and that you no longer exist. How I wish you did.
I can’t put my feelings into words because they are all over the place. The planet lost a precious star. But maybe, you really were always a star, and belonged to the sky. Calling you an inspiration would not do least bit of justice to your character, your personality and your being. You were exceptional. Watching your story unfold, I was in awe of the fact that how how full of life you were. You knew you weren’t going to make it. So, you made most of every moment. We all get one life and often fail to be grateful for it. In a bid to earn a living, we forget to live life. Of all lessons you taught me, being happy in every situation is the one I treasure the most. Throughout the movie, I wondered how can someone be so courageous, not only for herself but for her whole family? Everyone knew you were in pain, but nothing could break your spirits. Only once did you call your brother expressing grief, and hey, we all need help sometimes, right? That’s what family is for.
“Fall right out, ate a mouthful of clouds
So don’t worry about me now, don’t worry about me now
We both know I’ve been here all along
So don’t worry when I’m gone, worry when I’m gone.”
These are the lines from a heartbreakingly beautiful song your brother wrote for you. I really wish you were here to listen to it, telling everyone else not to worry when you die because you have lived your life, ‘umraan mai saariyaan jee laiyaaan’ and now it’s time.
Your parents were smart enough to name you ‘Aisha’, which means “she who lives”. And here you are, living in our hearts and souls, making it shine with your shimmering stardust and your pink sky.
All my love.
