With an aim to educate slum-dwellers about maintaining personal hygiene, the UT police personnel today visited Shastri Nagar and gave lessons to the residents there on how to wash hands and encouraged them to take bath regularly.

Soaps were distributed among the slum residents. Meanwhile, the police continued to distribute cooked food in various other colonies.

Inspector Lakhbir Singh, SHO, IT Park police station, said they went to Shastri Nagar to educate slum-dwellers about the need to maintain perosnal hygiene and distributed soaps among people there and also provided them water to take bath.

The police said Shastri Nagar residents had complained that they had to get water from far away due to which taking bath everyday was not possible for them, following which the cops also made water available to them through tankers. Inspector Lakhbir said 500 food packets were distributed in Shastri Nagar.

Mauli Jagran residents stage protest

Around 50 Mauli Jagran residents staged a protest outside the Mauli Jagran police station on Sunday. Residents claimed that grocery shop owners in their area were selling essentials, including ration, to selected people. They demanded that the UT Administration and the police department should intervene and ensure supply of ration to all residents. — TNS
