Snatchers attack elderly woman in Zirakpur, flee with gold chain leaving victim injured

Zirakpur, August 7

Two unidentified miscreants snatched a gold chain of a Singhpura resident around 4pm on Saturday.

Victim Virender Kaur was returning home from market when two unidentified motorcyclist came from behind and snatched her 50gm gold chain around her neck on a secluded stretch of the road. One of the snatchers was on foot while the other went a little ahead from the woman and took a U-turn. In the meantime, the snatcher on the foot made a move and attacked the woman from behind. Taken by surprise, the women fell backwards after the snatcher got hold of the chain.

The elderly victim tried to resist the snatcher’s move but fell down in the melee and sustained injuries. The suspects fled from near the gate of the Chikitsak Heights in Singhpura towards the national highway.

The family members of the victim said she is terrified and has not been able to sleep after the incident. There is an unease and a sense of fear in the family and the society after the incident.

Zirakpur SHO Deepinder Singh Brar said on the basis of the complaint, a case has been registered and further action has been started.
