Solar power plant inaugurated at Chandigarh's Sector-35 guest house

Will generate 77,088 units of clean and green electricity every year

In a noteworthy step towards environmental sustainability and renewable energy adoption, Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria inaugurated a 55 kWp rooftop solar power plant and a rainwater harvesting system at the VVIP Guest House of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB), in Sector 35-B, Chandigarh, today.

Kataria commended the BBMB’s proactive efforts in embracing clean and green energy technologies. He lauded the initiative as a “commendable example of environmental responsibility,” emphasising that such projects set the tone for energy efficiency and water conservation across government and public sector establishments.

The solar project, now operational, is expected to generate around 77,088 units of clean and green electricity every year, significantly contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and promoting the use of renewable sources of energy.

In addition to this, the newly installed rainwater harvesting system at the site is designed to conserve water and aid in groundwater recharge, making this a holistic move towards sustainable resource management.

Manoj Tripathi, Chairman, BBMB, along with senior officers and officials of the board, were present at the event.
