South campus murder: Probe points out negligence on part of PU, students’ council
A magisterial probe ordered into the stabbing incident of a student during a concert on Panjab University (PU) campus on March 28 has pointed out negligence on part of the university authorities and PU Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC).
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Nishant Kumar Yadav had ordered a magisterial inquiry into the stabbing incident during a music concert, which claimed the life of Aditya Thakur (22), a student of the University Institute of Engineering and Technology. The inquiry was marked to Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Central) Naveen.
As two concerts had already been cancelled, the PU authorities had buckled under pressure from the PUCSC to organise the event, sources quoted from the report.
The sources stated that the PU authorities had never thought that nearly 10,000 people would reach the venue and security arrangements were also not adequate to handle such a huge rush at the event.
In the absence of an ambulance at the venue, the injured was shifted in a police vehicle and the victim had already lost nearly 3 litres of blood when he reached the PGIMER. Had there been an ambulance and medical arrangement at the site, the precious life could have been saved, stated the sources.
The report also found fault with the PUCSC as they failed to take opinion of experts in organising the event as it required certain logistics.
Aditya, a second-year student studying computer science engineering, had been stabbed to death during a concert by Haryanvi singer Masoom Sharma organised at the UIET campus in Sector 25.
The victim had sustained stab injuries in the thigh during a scuffle with a group of “outsiders” on March 28. Later, four persons, all outsiders, were arrested in the case.
