Speeding SUV runs over cyclist in Panchkula

A 23-year-old cyclist died after a speeding SUV hit him near a farmer’s market.

The victim, who has been identified as Vishal, a sweeper at Recoreders Medicare Systems LTD, was cycling to work around 6.30 am when he was struck by the car.

According to the eyewitnesses’ accounts, he was hit by the speeding SUV bearing a Punjab-based registration. The driver, according to the some onlookers, lost control of the car and collided with Vishal near a farmers’ market.

The victim was rushed to the hospital, but succumbed to his injuries.

The police has registered a case under Sections 106, 281 and 324 (4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita against Sumit, the car driver, at the Sector 5 police station.
