Sports briefs: Open speed skating meet in Panchkula on May 20

Panchkula: Rolling Tigers Skating Academy will organise the Open Speed Skating Carnival at New India High School, Pinjore, on May 20. Skaters in the age group U-4 to above-18, can participate in this event. They can confirm their entries with event organising secretary, Chander Singhal, before May 17.

Junior softball championship

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Softball Association will organise the 42nd Junior Softball Championship, from May 17 to 18 at the Manimajra Sports Complex. During the two-day championship, the organisers will also select local teams for the upcoming 43rd Junior National Championship to be held at Panjab University from May 29 to June 2. The players born on or after January 1, 2008, will be eligible to participate in the state meet.

Inter-school carrom meet

Chandigarh: The 7th Inter-School Carrom Championship will be organised by the Chandigarh Carrom Association at St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, from May 28 to 30. In this three-day tournament, a total of four events, including team championships and singles (boys and girls), will be held. A team consisting of four boys and four girls each from Class I to X will be allowed to participate.

City judoka wins gold medal

Chandigarh: Local judoka, Saiyam Choudhary, a Class XII student of Shishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22, bagged gold medal in the 50kg event of the Khelo India Youth Games in Bihar. His achievement in the national-level competition reflects not only individual excellence but also the school’s ongoing commitment to nurturing talent in both academics and sports, said school director Amita Khorana.

U-15 open chess tournament

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Chess Association will organise Under-15 Open and Girls Chess Championship 2025 from May 17 to 18 at Sri Aurobindo School of Integral Education, Sector 27. Four boys and four girls will be selected to represent Chandigarh at the National U-15 to be held in Uttar Pradesh from September 18 to 26. Those interested can submit their entries before May 15.
