Sports infra devp, policy for specially-abled discussed in Chandigarh

The UT Sports Department has initiated the proposal for the construction of an international-level multipurpose hall, Olympic-standard swimming pool and a girls’ hostel. This has been confirmed by officials after the first meeting of the newly constituted standing committee of the Administrator’s Advisory Council on Sports, Chandigarh, at the Sector 42 sports complex.

“Sorabh Kumar Arora, Director Sports, outlined key initiatives taken by the Sports Department. He said that the proposal for the construction of a multipurpose hall, swimming pool and hostel had been initiated. The Engineering Department has floated tenders, which will be opened on August 18,” confirmed an official commune.

The committee was also apprised of the allotment of a tender for converting the Sector 39 swimming pool into an all-weather one by October 31. “The online portal for cash awards to sportspersons will be launched on the August 29. A dedicated sports policy for specially-abled sportspersons has also been prepared and will be launched shortly, claimed the Sports Department.— TNS
