The Panjab University (PU) authorities today announced on relieved those employees who are included as guest faculty, temporary, contract teachers and daily wages, contractual non teaching staff, today.
According to one of the spokesperson, these are those employees whose term is expiring for current session on May 8.
It has been also informed that all these will be re-engaged as per the requirement, as and when the normal functioning of the university resumes.
For this purpose an online meeting was held under the chairmanship of PU VC Prof Raj Kumar and others. It was informed that the decision has been taken considering uncertainty about resumption of normalcy. “The decision about opening of next session as well as pending academic work (if any) of the current session cannot be taken at this point of time. The services of those employees, whose term is expiring on May 8 shall be re-engaged. It’s an ongoing process and they will be paid salaries,” said a spokesperson.
Guidelines for PhD students
Meanwhile it was decided that the viva-voce of PhD students will be held in the respective departments and if the facility is not available in the department, then it will be conducted at the Computer Centre through Skype or any other online method. The chairperson of the concerned department, supervisor and candidate will be physically present at the time of viva. Other faculty and research scholars will attend online from their places to ensure the interaction as public Viva-Voce. For those research scholars, whose PhD has already been submitted, their thesis will be send to examiner for evaluation after following due procedure. It was also proposed that DUI office will request the faculty to take assignment/project work etc. required for internal assessment and evaluate the same for final result.
