A case has been registered against 60 individuals for availing bank loans from the State Bank of India on the basis of fake documents, the police said. The individuals availed themselves of these loans since 2021, while the case was registered against them recently after a complaint from the bank.

While submitting the Xpress Credit loan application, the individuals stated that they were government employees and submitted salary slips, ID cards and other valid documents to the bank. Upon verification from the respective government departments, all the documents were found to be fake. Rishi Kumar, SBI Regional Branch Manager

According to the complaint, the individuals posed as government employees and availed the loans under the Xpress Credit Scheme. Upon verification, their documents were found to be fake; hence, the bank was defrauded of a total of Rs 2.10 crore.

The regional manager of the SBI Sector 5 branch at Panchkula, Rishi Kumar, said the individuals had applied for loans of varied amounts from the bank. “While submitting the Xpress Credit loan application, the individuals stated that they were government employees and submitted salary slips, ID cards, and other valid documents to the bank,” he said. “The documents were sent to the respective departments for verification, and the bank was informed that the borrowers were not government employees. The salary slips, ID cards, and other documents that were presented to us were fake, too.”

A complaint has been registered against unidentified suspects under Sections 120B (party to a criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 467 (forgery of a valuable security), 468 (forgery intended to cheat), and 471 (fraudulent use of a forged document or electronic record as genuine) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Sector 7 police station.
