The city Congress organised a torch rally to protest over increased incidents of vote theft across the country.
Addressing party workers and local residents during the “Voter Adhikar Mashaal Yatra”, former Union Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal, who led the event, strongly condemned the ruling BJP, stating: “The BJP is not only nervous but restless too. Stealing votes of people is treason. Looting votes is a direct attack on democracy. Denying people their right to vote is akin to running a bulldozer over the Constitution of India.”
He said all opposition parties were united to fight this battle under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha.
Bansal said, “‘Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod’ has become a public slogan, not only in Chandigarh but across the country.” He added that Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA bloc’s “Voter Adhikar Yatra” marked the beginning of a new revolution.
He claimed that in Bihar alone, 6.5 million votes were removed, yet the BJP remained silent, proving the collusion between the ruling party and the Election Commission.
