Storm water drain reconstruction begins
The work of reconstructing the 72-inch storm water drain, which had collapsed near Junction No. 51, St Stephen’s School, Sector 45, was inaugurated by councillor Gurpreet Singh Gabi.
The total cost of the project is estimated to be around Rs 14 lakh and it is expected to be completed in two months, depending on site conditions.
The road had been repeatedly breaking, but instead of conducting proper inspections it was often rebuilt by filling it with debris. Councillor Gabi inspected the site and called upon the SDOs of the three engineering wings — Road Wing, Water Supply and Sewerage Maintenance — for a detailed examination.
Upon excavation, it was discovered that the 72-inch main drainage culvert, located 20 feet below the surface, was severely damaged and leaking at multiple places.
An estimate was prepared for its reconstruction.
