Patients and visitors had to face inconvenience as members of the United Nurses Association today struck work in support of their long-pending demands, including restoration of Rs 4,600 grade pay, and held a demonstration in front of the Mohali Civil Hospital gate.

Except for Emergency services, all work suffered as nurses staged a protest and raised slogans against the state government for dilly-dallying on their six-year-old demands. Besides Mohali, nurses at Patiala and Amritsar medical colleges too reportedly struck work.

Association office-bearers said if their demands were not met, they would begin an indefinite strike from September 29. They said their meeting with Health Department officials yesterday remained inconclusive. “The government has been ignoring our demands for past many years,” they claimed.
