A 22-year-old student of GGDSSD College, Sector 32, was assaulted by a group of youths wielding swords and sticks outside the college.

The victim, an active member of SDCU, a student organisation, had been involved in a clash following the student elections in Sector 49 in September last year.

According to the police, Aman Malik, a resident of Sector 68, Mohali, reported that when he left the college after classes yesterday, he was confronted by assailants, who had arrived there by two cars.

The victim, a BA I student, reported that he was attacked by around 10 assailants who fled the scene as passers-by started gathering at the spot. While fleeing, one of the assailants snatched his mobile phone and purse containing cash and documents.

The police were informed about the incident and the victim was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. He suffered a fracture in the arm besides a head injury.

A case of attempt to murder has been registered at the Sector 34 police station against Harinder Singh, Harpreet Singh and others.
