A 17-year-old Class XII student of a private school in Chandigarh reportedly died after jumping from the fourth floor of a shopping mall in Phase 11 around 10 am today. The boy, a resident of Phase XI, was depressed for the past sometime, his father told the police.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera of the mall. The teenager is seen calmly walking into the mall and then sitting in the food court on the fourth floor. He buys a bottle of water, walks around and then jumps from the floor.

Mall officials reported the matter to the police, after which the boy was taken to a hospital in a Police Control Room vehicle. He died after a few hours in the hospital, said Phase-11 SHO Gagandeep Singh. The police said they were investigating whether the child was depressed due to studies or some family reasons. He is survived by his younger brother and parents.
