Eighty per cent of the 210 middle, high and senior secondary schools in the district have been provided with sanitary pad vending machines and incinerators, said Ravinder Kaur, Deputy CEO (Elementary).
She said the students of government schools were being guided by ASHA workers and doctors on hygiene and healthcare during menstruation.
Around 21,000 girls studying in government schools have benefited from these machines.
She said with the introduction of these machines and incinerators in the schools, the confidence of the students had increased. Their presence in the schools has also increased and these machines have helped in curbing the social stigma of discrimination against the girls during menstruation.
