Submit complete status report or face action, UT police told

The District Courts has directed the Chandigarh Police to submit a complete status report in the case of a complaint of Dr Mohit Dhawan, who has alleged that he was harassed and falsely implicated in a case registered against him on the complaint of a NRI woman.

The court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) Sanjay said legal action would be taken against the DSP of the area concerned in case he fails to submit the report during the next hearing, which has been fixed for March 20.

Dr Mohit Dhawan had filed a complaint against NRI woman Gertrude D’Souza, her husband Bryan D’Souza, the then special director of CBI Rakesh Asthana, the then UT DGP TS Luthra and some others cops of the Chandigarh Police before the CBI Director, New Delhi, in February 2019.

Dhawan filed an application in the District Courts to register a case against all persons under Section 156 of the CrPC. The police had filed the report on January 30, but did not mention any name of the suspects.

The police have registered a case against Dr Dhawan at the Sector 19 police station in March 2018 on the complaint of a NRI woman who had alleged that she was cheated of Rs 7 lakh on the pretext of a dental tourism package. Dr Dhawan, who has a clinic in Sector 21, had complained that he was falsely implicated in the case on the behest of the CBI officer and the former UT DGP to exhort money from him.

In the application filed before the court, he demanded to register a case against all suspects he named in the application. The UT Vigilance Department has also initiated an investigation into the complaint filed by dentist Dr Mohit Dhawan before the CBI. The Vigilance inquiry has been started after the case was referred by the CBI to the Administration recently.
