Submit report before September 30: Panel to MC Chief Engineer
The Punjab State and Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission has sought a report from the MC Chief Engineer over sanitation woes in Sector 23, by September 30.
The panel took a suo motu cognisance of a news report, “Overflowing sewage raises stink in Sector 23”, published in Chandigarh Tribune on September 16 this year.
In the order, the commission, comprising Chairperson Justice Sant Parkash and Member Justice Gurbir Singh, stated that it was reported in the news item that residents of Sector 23-D had been facing the issue of overflowing of sewage from a manhole and their repeated complaints did not generate any response from the MC Commissioner. The sewage had spread on the entire street and emitting foul smell, giving a tough time to area residents.
Ujjwal Mittal, the counsel for the MC Commissioner, who was present in other cases, accepted the notice. A copy of the order be sent to the MC Chief Engineer through e-mail and by post for compliance and to the MC Commissioner and the UT Chief Secretary for information, the commission ordered.
