Sukhmanpreet Singh claimed the boys’ -56kg junior weight category gold medal by lifting a total weight of 140kg during the concluding day of the Chandigarh Weightlifting Championship organised by the UT Sports Department at the Sector 42 sports complex. Gopal Singh (114kg) and Shubham Sharma (112kg) claimed second and third position.
In the -60kg sub junior event, Vishal (118kg), Prabhneet Singh (110kg) and Nikhil Verma (80kg) claimed the top three positions, while in the junior age group of the same weight category, Rudra Rana (129kg), Mehar (118kg) and Tarun (112kg) won medals. Jashandeep Singh lifted 190kg to win the -65kg sub junior event, followed by Prakhar Dubey (130kg) and Japneet Singh (87kg).
In the junior age group, Hitesh Kumar (137kg), Jayant (86kg) and Chand Rai (65kg) bagged medals. In the -71kg sub junior event, Ronish (237kg), Jobandeep (175kg) and Ashmit Panwar (105kg) won the top three sports, while in the junior category, Gursehajpreet Singh (80kg), Bishpreet Singh (49kg) and Zorawar Singh (42kg) won the top three medals. Banpreet Singh emerged winner of the -79kg sub junior event with a lift of 150kg, followed by Rattan (145kg) and Prince (110kg), while in the junior event, Tusain (131kg), Sonu (107kg) and Shubham (51kg) shone.
In the -88kg sub-junior event, Harkirat Singh (200kg) won the gold medal, followed by Sukhwinder Singh (183kg) and Gurminder Singh (32kg).
In the girls’ 69kg junior category, Diksha (98kg), Sohani (52kg) and Bhoomiza (45kg) won the medals. Bedika Kaushal won the sub junior -77kg event with a lift of 120kg, followed by Naina Bagri (40kg) on second position.
Paramvir excels
Paramvir Singh won gold medal in the +110kg category with a total lift of 360kg — becoming the first weightlifter of Chandigarh for lifting weight on a par with the national record in a state championship. In the -110kg event, Abhishek Kumar (245kg) won the gold medal.
