After a video that went viral on social media and was shared by some politicians, including Jalandhar Cantt MLA Pargat Singh, in which a UT police inspector can be seen ‘pushing’ a student and threatening him, the Panjab University Bachao Morcha members have written a letter to Chandigarh Police DGP, demanding suspension of Sector 3 SHO Narinder Patial, the officer in video.

They have alleged that Patial already has multiple complaints against him and has also been allegedly involved in case of extortion and criminal intimidation.

According to the complaint by morcha convener Rimaljot Singh and coordinator Gagandeep Singh, the SHO wrongfully threatened a student, Karanveer Singh, who was sitting peacefully along with other two protesters Harpuneet Kaur and Sahib Singh outside the Vice Chancellor’s office with statements like “tainu vichalun parhdu (I will tear you apart), parcha karadu, tera career barbad kardu (will file a case against you and ruin your career)”. The complainants also alleged that the police official also manhandled the student.

“Chandigarh Police raided various departments on the campus and detained around eight students after we had given a call to burn the Chancellor and VC’s effigy on Saturday. However, Karan was sitting peacefully at the protest site outside the VC office with others when Patial rushed towards him and started threatening him. He had no reason to misbehave with him. We ask the authorities to take action against him,” a student leader said.
