Chandigarh, August 11
While rejecting the three-day interim bail application by suspended Inspector Jaswinder Kaur, Sushil Kumar Garg, Special Judge, CBI Court, allowed her to attend her son’s wedding in the police custody for seven hours on August 14.
Jawinder Kaur had moved an application for releasing her on an interim bail for three days from August 13 to August 15 on account of her son Gurpreet Singh’s wedding. After hearing the arguments, the court stated: “Keeping in view the nature of the offences and subsequent conduct of accused Jaswinder Kaur, she does not deserve the concession of an interim bail.”
The Court further said however, in the interest of justice, Superintendent, Model Jail, Burail, is directed to make necessary arrangements to take the accused in police custody to Hotel Turquoise to attend the wedding ceremony of her son from 9 am to 4 pm on August 14 at her expenses and thereafter, bring her back to the jail.”
The order further said that the police authorities will be at the liberty to handcuff the accused, if deemed necessary.
The court also directed the Burail Jail Superintendent to take all precautionary measures against Covid-19.
Terminder Singh, counsel of the petitioner, pleaded that the presence of Jaswinder Kaur in marriage functions was necessary. KP Singh, public prosecutor for the CBI, stated that once on bail, the accused might misuse it and flee to another country.
Jaswinder Kaur was booked by the CBI for allegedly demanding Rs5 lakh bribe from a Manimajra resident Gurdeep Singh in lieu of not registering a cheating case against him.
