Chandigarh, February 1
A Drug Control Officer, Sunil Chaudhary, surrendered in a local court on Wednesday, and the court has sent him to 3-day remand with the Vigilance Department. Chaudhary was absconding in a bribery case registered by the Vigilance Department. The case was registered on the basis of a complaint by Deo Sharan Sah, a resident of Milk Colony in Dhanas, Chandigarh.
The Vigilance Department said that Chaudhary was demanding a bribe through a mediator (Ashok Narula) to settle a notice issued in the name of Firm M/s Devine Surgical. Deo Sharan Sah said that Sunil Chaudhary came to inspect his shop, and he was accompanied by Narula. He added that during the inspection, Chaudhary told him that his shop would be sealed on account of discrepancies.
Sah said that Narula told him that the matter would be settled if he paid Rs 1,00,000. The Vigilance Department laid a trap and arrested Narula while he was taking a Rs 25,000 bribe on September 27, 2023.
