Suspending work for poll unlawful, says Bar Council

The Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana has termed unlawful a resolutions passed by the various Bar Associations suspending work or deciding to abstain from work on the ground of election activities ahead of the elections scheduled for December 17.

Minderjeet Yadav, Chairman of the Bar Council, and Lekhraj Sharma, Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Bar Council, in a general order issued today has requested all Bar Associations not to pass the resolution of the Bar casually for suspending work/abstaining from work. They said such a resolution might be passed only in the rarest of rare circumstances. All such resolutions are not appreciated, neither by the court nor by the Bar Council.
