
Chandigarh, June 28
To reduce travel time to the airport, Chandigarh Smart City Ltd (CSCL), the Chief Administrator, Greater Mohali Development Authority (GMADA); the Municipal Corporation (MC), Mohali; and the SSP (Traffic), UT, will examine the issue and send their comments to the UT Chief Engineer within a week.
The UT Adviser, Dharam Pal, today chaired a meeting to discuss the issue of synchronising the traffic lights and creating a green channel for the purpose of reducing travel time to reach the Chandigarh airport.
The MC commissioners of Mohali and Chandigarh, the Chief Administrator of GMADA, the UT SSP (Traffic), the Chief Architect and the Chief Engineer were present at the meeting.
On the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, all stakeholders discussed the issue wherein it was stated that there were 15 traffic light points from the Transport Chowk to the airport. Of these, nine are under the jurisdiction of the Chandigarh Administration, three under the MC of Mohali, two are under the JLPL Engineering Wing and the remaining one is under GMADA.
The Adviser was informed that the adaptive traffic control system at the nine signals from the Transport Chowk to the Faidan barrier was the advanced control system which controlled the cycle time locally on individual roundabouts/intersections through Integrated Control and Command System of Chandigarh Smart City Limited.
After deliberations, it was decided that all stakeholders will examine the issue and send their comments to the Chief Engineer, Chandigarh, within a week’s time so that the High Court may be apprised about the same on the next date of hearing on July 11.
