Chandigarh: Local gymnast Tanya Chopra has been selected to represent Indian aerobics gymnastics team in the 16th FIG World Championship to be held from May 14 to 16 at Baku (Azerbaijan). She will be participating in this international championship with her partner Sumit Kumar. The trial for selecting the team was held in Prayagraj, earlier this month. Earlier, she has remained state champion for six consecutive years and they both have won gold medal in Fit Youth Aerobics National Championship held last year in Goa. She has also won bronze medal in 2017 Senior Aerobics Gymnastics National Championship in Bengaluru. She completed her masters in economics from Guru Gobind Singh College for Women (Sector26). TNS
DLCE log easy 8-wkt victory
Chandigarh: Dr Luthra’s Cricket Eleven (DLCE) defeated Chandigarh Yuva Sangathan (CYS) by eight wickets in the first of three match series of Maa Tujhe Salaam T20 Cricket Cup. Batting first, CYS was bowled out for 95 runs in 17.3 overs. Kamal (21_), Sonu (19, Vippan Arora (16) and Nikhil (14) were the main scorers for the side. Harshul Vats claimed three wickets, while Paras and Amit claimed two each for the bowling side. Anand and Harvinder Nain also contributed by claiming one wicket each. In reply, DLCE scored 97/2 in 12.5 overs with the help of Harvinder Nain (38) and Harshul Vats (36). Kamal claimed two wickets for the bowling side. TNS
Shiva XI register 73-run win
Chandigarh: In the ongoing 2nd Mohali Corporate Cricket League, Shiva XI defeated G Pharma XI by 73 runs. Batting first, Shiva XI posted 180/4 in 22 overs with the help of Aman Pal (40), Lakshay (38) and Gautam Bhardwaj (30). Umesh, Mukesh and Pawan claimed one wicket each for the bowling side. In reply, G Pharm XI were bowled out for 107 runs in 21 overs. Sandeep (34) was the main scorer for the side, while Sunil Thakur (16) and Rahul Singh (14) were the other main contributors in the total. Anand Bishnoi claimed a five-wicket haul for the bowling side, while Kapil Bhardwaj and Gaurav Dhir claimed one wicket each for the bowling side.
Tikka to play in NRAI events
Mohali: Teenager shooter Tikka Jai Singh Sodhi has been selected in 25m rapid fire pistol squad by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) for the upcoming international events. Sodhi is training under famous pistol coach Subhash Rana. He is also selected under Khelo India scheme wherein top young shooters will be trained for the 2024 Olympics. TNS
