Top seed Tasnim Mir of Gujarat beat 12th seed Riya Kunjir of Maharashtra in a lop-sided encounter to seal a place in the girls’ U-19 quarterfinals in the ongoing Yonex-Sunrise All India Junior Ranking Badminton Tournament at the Sector 38 Sports Complex here today. Tasnim won 21-5 21-16.

Rajasthan’s Sakshi Phogat marched into the quarterfinals after sixth seed Uthsava Palit conceded the match mid-way through the second game. Sakshi was leading 21-14 10-4 when an injury forced Uthsava to quit.

Fourth seed Deepshikha Singh of Delhi drubbed Mili Verma 21-11 21-11, while 16th seed Pranavi N of Tamil Nadu upset fifth seed Tanya Hemanth 21-13 13-21 22-20. Ninth seed Akshaya Arumugam of Tamil Nadu defeated Awantika Pandey 21-13 23-21 in the pre-quarterfinals.

Third seed Mansi Singh packed off Janani Ananthakumar 21-15 21-8. Likhita Srivastava registered a 21-11 21-11 win over Shreya Lele, while second seed Aditi Bhatt tamed Anya Chauhan 21-12 21-13.

Rohan motors on

In the boys’ singles U-19 competition, top seed Rohan Gurbani of Delhi lived up to his billing as he packed off Vikas Yadav 21-15 22-20 to move into the quarterfinals.

Second seed Ravi rallied from a game down to beat Jaiditya Pratap Singh 19-21 21-14 22-20. Haryana’s Abhinn Vasisth edged out Pruthvi Roy K 21-14 21-19, while Gautam Walia came from behind to beat Chayanit Joshi 9-21 22-20 21-12. Pranay Katta stunned sixth seed Harsh Arora 21-13 21-11 in the last-16 encounter. Seventh seed Rithvik Sanjeevi S of Tamil Nadu dismissed ninth seed Jayant Rana 21-14 21-8, while third seed Pranav Rao Gandham thrashed Haryana’s Raman Kumar 21-11 21-13.

Saneeth DS overcame Tukum Laa in an intense pre-quarterfinal match. After losing the opening game 20-22, Saneeth came back strongly to pocket the next two games 21-17 21-10.

Edwin-Shruti in last-8

In the U-19 mixed doubles contest, top seed pair of Edwin Joy and Shruti Mishra defeated Shubham Patel and Sakshi Phogat 21-23 23-21 24-22 in the pre-quarterfinals.

A Doddavarapu and R Sachan prevailed 21-17 17-21 21-8 win over Advit Bhargava and Navdha Manglam, while third seed Kerala pair of S Udayakumar and T Jolly defeated Suhas V and Janani Ananthakumar 21-9 21-15 in the pre-quarters.

A Doddavarapu and E Joy, meanwhile, rallied to beat Adheep Gupta and Nikunj Pandey 16-21 21-8 21-14 in the boys’ U-19 doubles pre-quarterfinals. Saket CS and Suhas V registered a 21-17 11-21 21-14 win over Suraj Goala and Angshuman Gogoi.
