Kharar, the hometown of Punjab CM Charanjit Channi, continues to witness protests by agitators from all over the state. Today, it was the turn of computer teachers who staged a protest in the city, blocking the Chandigarh-Kurali highway for more than two hours.

The protesting teachers are demanding regularisation of their services and enhancement in their salary. Owing to the blockade, long queues of vehicles were seen on both sides of the road. Although traffic diversions were made by the police, residents said they were facing harassment for no fault of theirs. “The government should take stern action against those who obstruct traffic,” said Bhisham Sharma, a local resident.

Addressing the computer teachers, union leader Gurwinder Singh said they would continue the dharna till the government met their demands.
