Within 24 hours after the district administration issued order prohibiting protesting employees from climbing atop water tanks, mobile towers and roofs of government buildings, a few teachers climbed a water tank in Kumbhra village today. They are protesting the non-fulfillment of their demands.

After receiving the information, the police immediately reached the site and asked them to climb down.

Meanwhile, the district administration has issued orders for allowing peaceful protests at designated spots in the district. District Magistrate Girish Daylan said protests could be held at Dasehra Ground, Phase 8, Mohali, Panchayati land at Chappar Chiri Kalan, Football Ground, Darpan City, Kharar, and at a vacant land near Focal Point, Mubarakpur Road, Dera Bassi.

Girish Dayalan said the protesters should ensure Covid-appropriate behavior and compliance with other guidelines. He said the violators would attract criminal penalty as per the provisions of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and the relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code. — TNS
