Chandigarh: Telangana’s Sriram leads after round 9 in chess championship
Chandigarh, July 21
Top seed Sriram Adarsh Uppala of Telangana was leading in the open category today at the end of the round 9 during the ongoing 34th National Under-17 Open and Girls Chess Championship being held at the Panjab University gymnasium hall.
He was closely followed by Nandish VS of Tamil Nadu, Arpith S Bijoy of Kerala and Gujarat’s Borkhtariya Devarsh M, as the trio scored 7½ points each.
Earlier, after the end of round 8, Uppala and Vignesh Advaith Vemula, both from Telangana, and Arpit S Bijoy of Kerala was leading the category with seven points each. Koustuv Dash of Odisha, Nandish VS of Tamil Nadu, Borkhetariya Devarsh M of Gujarat, Rohith S of Tamil Nadu, Mrithyunjay Mahadevan and Maharashtra’s Bagwe Gaurang were trailing the leaders with a score of 6½ each.
Narahari in command
In the girls’ category, Narahari Geethika Hasini of Telangana was leading at the end of round 9 with a score of 7½ points. She was closely followed by a pack of six girls — Tejaswini G (Tamil Nadu), Sherali Pattnaik (Uttarakhand), Kirthika B (Telangana), Anupam M Sreekumar (Kerala), Patil Divya (Maharashtra) and Sneha Halder (West Bengal) with seven points each.
Maharashtra’s Kale Shruti, Sravyasree Bheemarasetty of Andhra Pradesh and Theephigaa KP of Tamil Nadu trailed with 6½ points each.
