Dept repairs crack at Tiwana embankment
Dera Bassi: Heavy rains uphill on Tuesday night led to increased flow on water that put pressure on Tiwana embankment, which developed a crack due to soil erosion. Drainage Department officials, however, were quick to plug the crack and carry out the repair works. Officials said at one point, the flow had reached 65,000 cusec, close to a flood-like situation.
Deputy Commissioner Komal Mittal today visited Baltana and Mubarikpur to assess the situation following the recent overflow caused by the release of excess water from the Sukhna head.
She assured residents that the administration was keeping a close watch on all vulnerable points along the Sukhna Choe and Ghaggar river. She urged residents to stay away from the banks of both water bodies.
