The police booked three houseowners under Section 188, seized two licensed weapons and a liquor carton and impounded five unclaimed vehicles from the Penta Homes housing society on VIP Road during a tenant verification drive in Zirakpur today.

As many as 60 police personnel from Zirakpur, Dera Bassi and Lalru carried out searches in the highrise building. Zirakpur SHO Deepinder Singh Brar said, “Three FIRs have been registered under Section 188 of the IPC at the Zirakpur police station.”

On June 9, 20 suspicious persons were rounded up during a search by the police from three districts — Fatehgarh Sahib, Mohali and Ropar — at three prominent housing societies. Seven weapons, 18 gm of opium and Rs 21 lakh were seized, while 10 vehicles were impounded in the operation. Policemen in combat gear and bulletproof vests had cordoned off Acme Eden Court on the Kharar-Landran road, Jal Vayu Towers in Kharar and Homeland Heights, Sector 77, Mohali, around 5 am. In the past one week, over 400 show-cause notices have been issued to houseowners in societies regarding tenant verification.
