Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari addresses people’s grievances at Janta Darbar
MP Manish Tewari convened a Janta Darbar today at the Modern Housing Complex, Mani Majra, where he engaged with the local populace, addressing their grievances and pledging resolutions.
The event was also attended by Chandigarh Pradesh Congress president HS Lucky and councillor Darshna Rani.
The Janta Darbar was organised by District Congress president Surjit Dhillon, block president Sanjeev Gaba, besides Narendra Singh Nandi, KR Mahajan and Manpreet Sethi.
In a significant move to bolster the security infrastructure of Mani Majra, Tewari declared a grant of Rs 10 lakh from his MP fund for the installation of CCTV cameras in the locality. He emphasised that the initiative is aimed at enhancing public safety and will be executed promptly.
Criticising the BJP, Tewari said the much-touted 24-hour water supply in Mani Majra, inaugurated by a Union Minister, has proven to be a mere illusion. He pointed out that despite three attempts at laying pipelines under the project, residents receive water for only 3-4 hours daily. Upon raising the issue in Parliament, he was met with a response indicating that trials are still ongoing.
He lamented the imposition of a Rs 500 crore loan on the Municipal Corporation, which has led to increase in property tax and sewerage cess. Tewari accused the BJP government of retaliating against the citizens of Chandigarh for their electoral choice in favour of the Congress.
Lucky launched a vehement critique of the BJP government, asserting that the Central Administration is adept at making hollow promises and misleading the public.
