Former Union Minister and local MP Manish Tewari has said a proper and detailed investigation was needed into the functioning of the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) as there was an exponential rise in the number of challans issued to vehicles between 2022 and 2025.

In a statement, the MP said he had raised a question in Parliament about the number of vehicles challaned between 2019 and 2025 after the artificial intelligence system ICCC was operationalised.

Unfortunately, there was an exponential rise in the number of challans, he added.

The Chandigarh Police have now taken the initiative to ensure that manual challaning of vehicles does not take place except in most egregious of circumstances.

However, it is important to investigate as to why there was an exponential rise in the number of challans in 2022, 2023, 2024 and 2025, which caused immense harassment and humiliation to city residents and those who come from outside to Chandigarh for work.

This is the reason Chandigarh has been given the sobriquet of “Challangarh” by people of the adjoining areas, he added.
