In his complaint, Chugh stated that the stolen components were used for traffic management/e-challaning by monitoring cameras from the Police Command Control Centre of the Chandigarh Police at Sector 17. Cases in all the incidents have been registered by the police.

Similar thefts had been reported from at least six locations in the city since December. The UT police had busted a gang involved in the thefts with the arrest of 11 of its members earlier this month. The same persons were also behind a number of snatchings reported in the city.
