Thief who struck at same Kalka house twice held

Accused already facing two cases; stolen items worth Rs 32 lakh recovered

The police have arrested a thief who allegedly struck a Kalka home twice within a short span and recovered stolen items worth around Rs 30 lakh from him.

The arrested accused has been identified as Karn alias Cheeku, a 22-year-old resident of Upper Mohalla, Kalka. The accused has two prior theft cases registered against him at the Kalka police station dating back to 2022 and 2024 and was out on bail.

In the latest theft, the victim, Harvinder Singh, a resident of Upper Mohalla, Kalka, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that on April 14, he had travelled with his family to Paonta Sahib. Upon returning, he discovered that the lock on the cupboard in his house had been broken and jewellery along with cash had been stolen. Notably, the accused had committed theft at the same house twice.

Based on the police complaint, a case was registered under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kalka police station.

During the investigation, the detective staff reviewed CCTV footage from the area and followed various leads. Constable Kanwarpal Singh, the investigating officer, received a tip-off that the accused was roaming near the vegetable market in Kalka. Acting on this information, the team conducted a raid on May 15 and arrested the accused on the spot.

The arrested accused was later produced before the court and was remanded to three days of police custody.
