The Panchkula police have registered a case of rioting and an attempt to murder after a college student — Ratul Birla, a resident of Sector 20 — was allegedly thrashed by his neighbours.

Ratul said he was attacked by his neighbour Saksham, his father Mohit and many of Mohit’s friends.

The 18-year-old studentsaid he was on talking terms with a girl from his school days, but Saksham was against it.

Ratul said Saksham called him near a the parking lot of the hospital in Sector 20 on Friday, where he attacked him along with 15 to 20 boys.

He said Saksham and his father, Mohit attacked him at their residential society as well. After the attack in Sector 20, Ratul was admitted to a private hospital due to injuries.

The police have registered cases under Sections 148 (rioting), 149 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (mischief), and 307 (attempt to murder) against Saksham, Agrim and Mohit at the Sector 20 police station.
