A fortnight after a jeweller was robbed at gunpoint, the local police claimed to have solved the case with the arrest of three suspects.

Those arrested have been identified as Hardeep Singh, alias Grewal (34), a resident of Sherpur village in Sangrur district and presently residing at the SBP Lifestyle, Kharar, Noorjit Singh, alias Noor (22), and Jagjit Singh, alias Happy (22), both residents of Bhai Roopa village under the Rampura Phul police station in Bathinda district.

SSP Vivek Sheel Soni said some unknown persons had snatched Rs 40,000 from Manohar Medical Store at gunpoint in the Sohana area on Saturday. A case under Sections 379-B, 34 and 506 of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act was registered at the Sohana police station. He said on June 11, unknown persons had also snatched a bag containing gold and silver jewellery at gunpoint from a jeweller, Parveen Kumar, and his wife at the main market of Landran. A case was registered against unknown persons under Section 379-B of the IPC and Section 25 of the Arms Act at the Sohana police station.

SSP Soni said various police teams, under the supervision of Kuljinder Singh, DSP (Investigation), Sukhjit Singh, DSP (Sub Division City-2), and Inspector Shiv Kumar, incharge, CIA, Mohali, were formed to nab the robbers. He said the teams arrested the suspects and recovered 380 gm of gold, 4.5 kg of silver, Rs 1 lakh, .32-bore revolver, five cartridges and two cars from them.

The SSP said the suspects were produced in a court, which remanded them in five-day police custody.
