Chandigarh Police have arrested three habitual offenders involved in a robbery near the Cactus Park, Ram Darbar, under its ongoing special drive against anti-social elements. The arrests were made by a team of the Sector 31 police station under the supervision of Inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO.
The case stems from an incident that occurred on the night of July 29, when Lalu Chauhan, a fruit seller residing in Phase 2, Ram Darbar, was assaulted and robbed, along with his brother Mukul, while returning home from kisan mandi, Sector 29. Around 11 pm, three assailants, identified by name during the attack as Shubham, Sawan and Habru, intercepted them near the Cactus Park. Sawan threatened Lalu with a knife, while Habru restrained him. Shubham snatched Lalu’s purse containing cash, an Aadhaar card, an ATM/debit card and other documents before the trio fled the scene.
Following the registration of an FIR on Friday under Sections 311, 126(2), 3(5) and 317(2) of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, the police launched an investigation and apprehended Habru (28), Shubham (23) and Sawan, all residents of Phase 1, Ram Darbar. The stolen Aadhaar card and cash were seized from Rahul, while Shubham was found possessing the complainant’s ATM card and some cash. A sharp-edged knife was seized from Sawan.
The accused, all daily-wage labourers, have extensive criminal histories. Sawan alone has five previous cases registered against him, while Shubham has three and Rahul one. The trio were produced before the court today.
