Three more from Lalru among US deportees
Three persons, including a couple, from Lalru were among the 119 Indian deportees, who arrived by a special flight from the US at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Saturday night.
Gurpreet Singh and his wife Amanpreet Kaur hail from Jaula Khurd while 24-year-old Nikhil Rana is from Lalru.
Gurpreet, elder son of a Punjab Police ASI posted in Mohali, was married to Shahjadpur resident Amanpreet around a year and a half ago. The couple had left for the US eight months ago. The family has a spacious, single story house in the village. It was locked on Saturday as the ASI and his wife had left for Amritsar to bring back their son and daughter-in-law.
Area residents said the family had tried their best to get a visa, but failed to get one.
“The family is in despair after their one-year ordeal,” said a village resident. Gurpreet’s father said he would talk only after bringing the couple back home from Amritsar.
The name of Harsimranjeet Singh of Sheikhan Mohalla in Rupnagar is also on the list of deportees.
Earlier, Pardeep, a native of Jarout in Lalru, was among the 30 Punjab youths who were deported by the US government under new immigration laws. A US military C-17 aircraft carrying the first batch of 104 illegal Indian immigrants had reached Amritsar on February 5.
