Three of family held in plot deal cheating case

The police has booked a Sector 27 resident, Jaspal Singh, his son Rupinder Singh Roopi, daughter-in-law Balwinder Kaur and grandson Ranjot Singh in a Rs 2.30 crore cheating case with regard to a deal of a Phase VIII plot reportedly executed on July 22. Rupinder, Balwinder and Ranjot were arrested today in this connection.
Interestingly, those arrested are related to the Congress and have been office-bearers in various wings of the party.
Complainant Sorabh Goyal of Sector 70 reported that he entered into an agreement with the accused to buy a plot measuring 2,500 sq yd in December 2023 for Rs 14.28cr and paid a token money of Rs 5 lakh. On January 5, Sorabh reportedly paid Rs 2.30 crore. On May 31, the reported date of execution of the deal, the sellers did not come to the sub-registrar’s office as the accused had reportedly taken Rs 10 lakh from another party regarding the sale of the same plot. A case under Sections 406, 420, and 120-B of the IPC had been registered at the Phase I police station on July 22. — TNS
