Chandigarh, June 21
Three plastic moulding units were gutted in a fire at the Industrial Area, Phase II, here on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. The owners pegged the loss at around Rs 1.50 crore.
Jaswinder Singh, owner of one of the three moulding units, said, “Our five machines worth about Rs 25 lakh each were destroyed in the fire.” The fire broke out around 2 am. The fire is believed to have been caused by a short circuit. “It took around an hour to control the fire,” said a fireman. The incident came as a big blow to the owners. Jaswinder said, “We did not have insurance for all goods. A very few goods were insured.”
Other than machines, all items inside the units were gutted. ACs and furniture items were also lost in the blaze. No one was inside the units when the incident happened. Some driver near the ill-fated units raised the alarm on seeing the flames. On getting information about the incident, teams of the fire department reached the spot.
