Chandigarh, April 20
Three youths have been arrested by the local police for allegedly stalking and teasing girls outside MCM College in Sector 36. The victims had made a video of the suspects, along with their car, that helped the police in tracing the suspects.
They were produced in a court today and sent to judicial custody. The police said two girls were returning to the college from the market on Sunday when the suspects allegedly staked them. The suspects passed comments at the girls after which they started making a video on a mobile phone following which the suspects threatened them and tried to snatch their phone.
The suspects left the spot after which the girls informed the police. A case under Sections 341, 354-D, 366, 379-A, 506, 509 and 511 of the IPC was registered at the Sector 36 police station.
The police then tracked the suspects, identified as Varun, a bank employee, and Ankit and Deepanshu, all residents of Anandpur Sahib. They were arrested last evening.
Police claims fall flat
The police claims regarding regular patrolling near the college to check such incidents seem to have fallen flat. “We have issued 258 challans for various traffic violations on the road outside the college and have impounded 38 vehicles since March 1,” said a police official.
The suspects, who came out of the sunroof of the car, also threw Rs. 20 currency notes on the girls.
