Toddler dies after falling in underground water tank, 3rd such death in 3 months

Mohali, March 2

A one-and-a-half-year-old, Jhanvi, was found dead in an underground water storage tank in a Sector 89 house this morning. This was the third such death in a little over three months. Her father, Vikas Kumar, a native of UP, rushed her to a local doctor, who referred the girl to Phase 6 Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Vikas said when he left for work early in the morning, his child was in the house and her mother was engaged in household chores. When he returned at around 11.30 am, he found the child missing. He said he checked the underground storage tank and found the girl after draining out some water from it.

Sohana SHO Jaspreet Singh Kahlon said either the lids of these tanks were missing or they were not secured properly.

On February 2, a six-year-old girl died after falling into an underground water storage tank in the Adarsh Nagar locality of Nayagaon. On December 23, 2023, a three-year-old boy died after falling into an underground water tank of a house in Sector 78 in Mohali.

On September 27, 2022, a two-and-a-half-year-old girl fell into a sewage tank in the verandah of a house at Kumaon Colony in Nayagaon.
