Mohali, July 23
Traffic remained badly disrupted on the Kharar-Landran road for hours after a mixer truck overturned in the middle of the road near Santemajra chowk in the wee hours of Tuesday.
Long queues of vehicles were witnessed on both sides of the road and road users had a tough time negotiating the spot as the overturned mixer truck, going towards the Landran side, lay on both sides of the road. Heavy vehicles were stuck at the spot.
The police reached the spot around 8 am after repeated calls by locals. A crane was summoned, but it failed to remove the heavy vehicle. Three more cranes had to be requisitioned even as road users continued to negotiate their way through the spilled construction material.
Locals flayed the traffic police for a delayed response and alleged that the driver of the vehicle fled the spot after the accident. The owner of the vehicle claimed that one of the rear tyres had burst, after which the truck overturned. Traffic could be restored on the road only around 11.30 am.
