Traffic chaos on Mohali roads amid Qaumi Insaaf Morcha’s protest

Hundreds of protesters gathered in Mohali on Tuesday on the second anniversary of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha regarding the release of Sikh prisoners languishing in jails and marched towards the Punjab CM's house in Chandigarh.

All major entry and exit points from Mohali towards Chandigarh were sealed.

Heavy police force from Mohali and nearby districts was deployed since morning. Many roads leading to Chandigarh from Mohali were barricaded completely, leaving the commuters stranded.

Massive traffic jams were witnessed on the inner roads of the city as commuters tried to find alternative routes for their work.

DSP City-2 Harsimran Singh Bal said, "Elaborate arrangements have been made to maintain law and order in Mohali.”

On the Chandigarh side, the UT police put up partial barricades and stationed dumper trucks to block the movement of protesters.

Meanwhile, a few Chandigarh police personnel were injured during a clash with members of Qaumi Insaaf Morcha in Sector 43.

The incident occurred when a group of protesters breached barricades and marched towards Chandigarh. The road opposite the ISBT-43 was closed.

While trying to stop protesters, a few police personnel were left injured. Among them, Inspector Jaivir Rana suffered a head injury.
