Chandigarh Traffic Police issue multiple advisories
The Chandigarh Traffic Police have announced a series of traffic regulations and diversions for upcoming events, including the Independence Day celebrations at Parade Ground, Janmashtami festivities and ‘At Home’ receptions at Punjab and Haryana Raj Bhawans.
In connection with the Independence Day function at Parade Ground, Sector 17, traffic restrictions will be come into effect from 6.30 am until the conclusion of the event.
Roads around the venue, including Udyog Path (Sector 16/17/22/23 to Gurdial Singh petrol pump), Old District Court to Shivalik Hotel, Lyon’s light point to Parade Ground, and the Sector 22/23 light point stretch towards Sector 16/17, will be closed or diverted.
Parking will be prohibited in front of Sector 22A market, with designated parking available at Sector 22B parking, Circus Ground (Sector 17), Neelam Cinema parking and the multi-level parking in Sector 17.
From 10.30 am to 11.30 am, traffic will be diverted away from ISBT Sector 17 to ease dispersal, with only buses allowed during this time.
Security instructions include early seating by 8.30 am, carrying photo ID and avoiding prohibited items.
Special traffic arrangements will also be in place for the ‘At Home’ receptions at Punjab Raj Bhawan (PRB) and Haryana Raj Bhawan (HRB).
Invitees are advised to approach via Sector 7/8 dividing road (DC turn) or new barricade chowk (Sector 4/5/8/9) towards Hira Singh Chowk, following a one-way system. Departures from PRB will exit via Sector 7/26 light point, while HRB departures will use Uttar Marg. No entry will be permitted from Kishangarh turn, KB DAV light point (Sector 7) and Sector 4/5 T-point towards either Raj Bhawan.
Chandigarh Golf Club members are to use Sukhna Path from the SGGS College side and access to Sukhna Lake will be limited up to Sector 4/5 T-point. Shuttle bus services will operate from designated parking areas, including behind the Chandigarh Police Headquarters/UT Secretariat and the UT Guest House.
Traffic regulations will be enforced from 10 am on August 16 until 2 am on August 17. Around ISKCON temple, Sector 36, traffic will be regulated along Dakshin Marg from Sector 22/23-35/36 chowk (Kisan Bhawan chowk) to Sector 36/37 chowk (Batra chowk). In Sector 20, restrictions will apply from the Sector 20/21 light point to the Sector 20/30 light point. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes during the celebrations.
The Chandigarh Traffic Police have requested public cooperation and patience, noting that the measures are aimed at ensuring smooth vehicular movement, public safety, and the success of the events.
